Privacy Policy

Who we are

Shipmate (shipmate.club) is a discovery and matching network that connects indie founders with marketers. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and what control you have over it.

What we collect

  • Your X (Twitter) profile basics when you sign in with X: username, display name, and profile picture. We use them to create your Shipmate profile.
  • Your email address, only if you grant it during X sign-in. It is optional. We use it solely for account-related communication (for example, notifying you when discovery opens or when you get a match). It is never shown publicly and never used for third-party marketing.
  • Profile information you provide: your projects or marketer profile — name, description, skills, needs, collaboration preferences, and optional fields you choose to fill in. This is the content of your public discovery card.
  • Activity needed to run the service: your likes, passes, matches, messages, blocks, and reports. Messages are stored so we can deliver your conversations; they are visible only to you and your match.

We do not read your tweets, direct messages, or followers, and we cannot post on your behalf — our X access is read-only and limited to your basic profile.

What is public

Your discovery card (the profile or project information you filled in, plus your X username, display name, and avatar) is visible to other users and to visitors browsing Shipmate. Your email, your swipes, your matches, and your messages are never public.

Where your data lives

Data is stored on Supabase infrastructure (our database and authentication provider) and served through Vercel (our hosting provider). Access to non-public data is enforced at the database level: only you and, where relevant, your matches can read it.

Analytics

We use DataFast, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand aggregate site traffic — pages visited, referrers, and signups. It may use a first-party identifier for that purpose. We do not use it (or anything else) for advertising, and we do not share your personal data with it beyond what its script collects on our site.

What we never do

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not share your email with third parties.
  • We do not run advertising or ad-tracking of any kind — the cookies we set keep you signed in and power the analytics described above, nothing else.

Deleting your data

You can hide your profile from discovery at any time from your profile settings. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us (below) and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update this page and its date. Shipmate is currently in beta, so expect occasional updates.
